Hot off the press is that Christian Lacroix is currently working with the Desigual designer team in Barcelona on the Autumn Winter 2011 collection.

Christian Lacroix, the renowned French fashion designer, is known for his opulent, fantasy creations with references to historical costumes and clothing, along with inspirations taken from diverse cultures.

This seems the perfect collaboration because of his love for hot colours and use of experimental and contrasting fabrics.

ColourfulFashion can't wait to see the result of Desigual/Lacroix marriage and to see how Lacroix's extravagant creativity can be designed into a very wearable but individual Desigual collection. Bring on next winter!

Hot Coats for Cold Days!

The leaves are starting to fall and so is the temperature. Now is the time we start to think about all those winter essentials that will see us through those chilly months. But whilst we prepare to face the wind, rain and snow, there has to be a modicum of style. Piling on the layers can still look flattering with a few wise purchases.

A massive trend this winter is the military coat. Look out for epaulettes on the shoulders and military detailing on the front of the jackets, like the Cream Mary Coat. Trench coats are also big and we love the Mamatayoe Black Petchuli Trench Coat, with its simple styling and just a flash of colour on one sleeve.

If you're looking for a dress coat which will shrug off those winter blues, no-one does it better than Desigual with their brilliant palette of colours and textures. Add Colour to Your Life!

It's amazing how a spell of good weather can change everyone's perspective on colourful clothing and brands like Desigual, Uttam and Savage Culture are suddenly in even hotter demand. Bring out the sun and bright dresses, tops and skirts splash our streets and seasides with a riot of colours.

Although I still find it fascinating that some people just won't do colour, even in the sunshine! I hear time and again from women in our shop that colourful clothes are only for the young and how they wish they were 18 again!

We had one woman try on a beautiful Mina dress this weekend and she obviously loved it. But after a bit of reflection, she ventured that it was too young for her. I happened to see her when she was showing her husband and it looked amazing; she certainly had the figure for it. But when she looked in the mirror a pre-conceived idea surfaced that it was not for her and she couldn't carry it off.

Of course we all have pre-conceived ideas of what suits us and there is nothing more illuminating that going shopping with a good friend and getting them to pull out some outfits that they think would suit you. I spent a brilliant day recently with a good friend and let her choose everything for me to try on. There were styles and colours that I simply would not have chosen and I had to admit some of them looked far better than I ever would have imagined. Even though I can see at a glance what suits others when they're trying on clothes in our shop, it's very different to apply that to yourself. But I'm a great believer in being experimental and not just sticking to what you know and feel safe in. You have to admit it feels brilliant when you walk into a party or work and someone says "you look great!"

We are always equally surprised by the number of men who are drawn to bright, colourful clothes and point them out to their partners. It is quite often the men that persuade their partners to come and try something on that they've seen in our windows, because they are drawn to the vivacious colours.

We are lucky enough to have customers of all ages and it is great to see older women looking confident and feeling great in colourful clothes. This weekend, for example, we had one lady in her 60s walk straight out of the shop and onto the Lyme Regis seafront in the beautiful Desigual Tatia dress and she was certainly turning heads. Another couple of ladies in their 50s were thrilled with the Desigual Gingy skirt and looked fantastic in the vivid turquoise colours.

So ask yourself, do colourful clothes really have to be the preserve of the young?!

When you think of this season's tribal trend, you think of bold tribal patterns or wild animal prints. But tribal also has a tamer side to it for those who don't want to walk on the wild side. So you can still beat the tribal drum but don't have to grab the feather headdress! A khaki tunic dress, for example, with gladiator shoes and some simple tribal inspired accessories such as this Hultquist necklace and matching earrings will look wildly effective!

This week sees the first real signs of Spring and there's nothing like a bit of good weather to make us want to refresh our wardrobes. Although it may still be early days for strappy summer dresses, adding a new colourful bag can be just the injection we're looking for to brighten up our outfits.
